What is going on?
After our two recent storms our massive oak trees along the lane have split. Other trees which are just as big and just as old have remained intact.
Luckily for us the oaks' heavy branches fell onto the field and not onto the road. Also even more luckily they missed our electricity cables. We did not lose power but the cattle in the field look perplexed and came over to see me, as if I could solve their problem.
Why did the oak trees split and fall when others did not? Maybe it is because they are so strong and unyielding which is a good thing, usually. But in the face of these howling gales perhaps it would have been better if they had bent a little and gone with the flow.
